    Job Description

    Polaris Alpha provides cutting edge solutions development based on the latest advances in open software design and integration. Polaris Alpha develops sophisticated data visualization, event analysis, pattern detection, mission planning and mobile software using net centric and enterprise architectures. No job is too large or too small. This position is for a mid-level Systems Administrator on both Linux and Microsoft based workstations and servers in both virtual and physical environments. The candidate will perform system analysis on complex and emergent behavior systems that directly impact the operational user; identify and resolve issues that affect the operational users; support the analysis of the physical and virtual architectures onsite; and relentlessly improve system efficiency and effectiveness. The candidate will translate user requirements into system and operational architectures/requirements. The candidate must be able understand and support the customer’s network designs, configuration, system maintenance, system installation, and troubleshooting of web-based applications and their individual components in accordance with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF). The candidate will be expected to understand and integrate hardware and software technologies, poses the ability to think critically, solve problems, and engineer solutions across multiple technologies.

    • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems identified by users of our various applications (CIDNE, WebTAS, WE, etc.). This will often involve taking a call from a different site, and then determining the cause and solution to the problem that was reported.
    • Monitor system performance and addressing any problems found.
    • Optimize various applications and infrastructures, adapting to the specific environment.
    • Coordinate and assist in the planning of application and infrastructure upgrades.
    • Understand network topology, with the ability to communicate local/enterprise network issues with Communication organizations (J6, G6, Signal, Comms, DISA, etc.).
    • Conduct psychical server maintenance; address any problems that occur with our hardware and apply firmware updates when needed.
    • Conduct virtual infrastructure maintenance; address any problems that occur within the virtual infrastructure and apply updates to the virtual infrastructure as needed.
    • Conduct various operating system maintenance; ensure that updates are applied and problems addressed for servers using both Windows and Linux operating systems.
    • Possess the ability to configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and remediate, database replication.
    • Work with local IA to ensure IAVA security compliance maintenance and monitoring.
    • Document CIDNE, WebTAS, WE, VM and server architectures on site; to include replication, interfaces, and other site-specific jobs.
    • Monitor web services, assist other systems that are trying to pull CIDNE data.
    • Monitor all backup solutions, ensuring that the site can quickly recover from major problems.
    • Monitor all other interfaces solutions to ensure that data is moving as intended.
    • Communicate effectively with reach back support to deal with any problems beyond the skill set of the individual on site.
    • Ensure that the site follows all CM polices set by TSD.
    • Any other assigned tasks to support the mission.

    Required Skills

    • Candidate must be a US Citizen and qualify for TESA status for permanent position in Germany
    • Security + Certification & a computing environment Certification
    • Candidate must possess a current Secret security clearance.
    • Bachelor’s in technology related discipline or equivalent experience may be accepted in place of degree.
    • 5-7 years’ experience administering Microsoft Operating Systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
    • 5-7 years’ experience administering Linux Operating Systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
    • Experience in maintaining virtual (VM) environments

    Desired Skills

    • Familiar with Docker, VMware vSphere, VMware vCenter, Rancher & Kubernetes, SQL Server, Mongo, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Solr technologies and software.
    • Experience with Scaled Agile Software development methodology.
    • Experience using Atlassian JIRA.
    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    Must be able to stand, walk and sit for prolonged periods of time; use of hands and/or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; operate office equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close and distant vision. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 45 pounds.
