    Job Description

    Polaris Alpha Advanced Systems, a Parsons Company, is seeking a full time software engineer to provide development and test support for DoD systems. The focus of this position is embedded control software development for a tactical microgrid control system. Ideal candidates will have a track record of successful embedded software development with a broad set of technical and domain skills, and be able to successfully work both individually and with a team.

    Polaris Alpha (“Polaris”), a Parsons company, provides advanced technical capabilities, specialized domain expertise and mission critical solutions to Department of Defense and Intelligence Community customers. The company has approximately 1,500 employees with major offices in Colorado Springs, CO, Fredericksburg, VA, Annapolis Junction, MD, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, and Alexandria, VA and works on-site with our customers both domestically and internationally.

    Duties Include:
    • Design and implement software compliant with standards and integrate with existing software and systems.
    • Defining, documenting, analyzing, performing and interpreting developmental tests for new and/or modified products or product components.
    • Investigating and resolving operational problems in conjunction with other engineering and technical personnel.
    • Work with hardware engineers to understand hardware-firmware-software interactions.
    • Providing technical support and guidance to other engineering groups.
    • Participating in the development, maintenance and refinement of internal quality control and reliability programs.
    • Work on projects/tasks of diverse scope and support the customer wherever possible.
    • Support customer by meeting all customer requirements and work to exceed customer expectations.

    Required Skills

    • 8+ years designing, developing, and testing software.
    • Significant expertise and experience in embedded control systems implementation.
    • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Computer/Electronic Engineering disciplines from an accredited educational institution.
    • Full lifecycle software engineering including design, architecture, development, test and support.
    • Linux with emphasis on RedHat / CentOS and Qt Creator integrated development environment.
    • Proficiency with multiple programming languages: Strength in C++ is required. Other languages, such as Java, Javascript/Typescript are a plus.
    • Proficiency with environment and configuration management tools: Eclipse, GIT, JIRA, or equivalent.
    • Familiarity with UML, Test Driven Development, Design Pattern Implementation, Agile Software Development.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.
    • Willing to travel.
    • Ability to work individually and with a team.
    • Desired Active Secret Clearance

    Desired Skills

    • Experience with Government standards and procedures.
    • Background in control theory.
    • Familiarity with OMG/DDS or similar modern communications protocols.
    • Familiarity with digital and analog circuitry.
    • Familiarity with digital signal processing.
    • Experience with 3 phase AC power systems.
    • Experience with communications adaptors, device simulators, and test harnesses.
    • Proficiency/familiarity with one or more technologies/tools including; MongoDB, Node.js/npm, Single Page Application (SPA) web applications, REST, Web Sockets, HTML/CSS, gRPC, Drools.
    • Active Secret Clearance
