Job Description

You Will:
- Conducts sociocultural data analysis of using some of the following techniques: unstructured and structured text processing, natural language processing, topic modeling, discourse analysis, computational linguistics or other machine learning techniques to create new knowledge of Afghan population perceptions, sentiment, and narratives.
- Develops and employs expert research methods and design.
- Provides subject matter expertise in data cleaning, exploration, transformation & visualization.
- Produces technical reports and products relevant to various customers.
- Assesses the impact of programmatic and technical options on stated user requirements and doctrine.
- Provides deep level analysis using professionally accepted operations research techniques (command-directed, customer requested, and initiative-driven subjects related to population sentiment).
- Possess ability to deploy for 6 months at a time in an austere environment

Required Skills

- Master’s Degree with 2 years of experience in data science with some exposure to social science or cultural studies. Six (6) years of additional experience, applicable training and/or certifications may be substituted for the Master’s Degree.
- Fluency in R or Python programming for data analysis and data visualization

Desired Skills

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Some experience in any of the following techniques: unstructured and structured text processing, natural language processing, topic modeling, discourse analysis, or computational linguistics.
- Integration of analysis into interactive html reports or dashboards via tools such as, but not limited to, Shiny or Plotly in R or Bokeh or Dash in Python.
- Some experience with geospatial packages in your scripting language.
- Programmatic data exchange between your scripting language and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Basic SQL in addition to your scripting language.
- Subject matter expert in atmospherics, sociocultural data, data cleaning, coding and manipulation, data exploration, visualization, qualitative and quantitative analytics
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Normal office setting, therefore the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking. Use of hands to operate computer equipment. Frequent near vision uses for reading and computer use.
